Rye Firefighter Injured Battling July 4 Guesthouse Blaze

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the garage and prevent damage to the rest of the home, thanks in part to a quick response.

RYE, NY — One firefighter was hurt working to contain an overnight blaze at a Westchester home.

The firefighter reported a minor injury and was evaluated and treated on the scene by Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS.

The Rye Fire Department says that on Thursday, shortly before 11 p.m., they were dispatched to Kirby Lane for a reported house fire.

When units arrived on the scene, they found an electrical service box on fire. The box was attached to a separate guesthouse at the address.

With the fire extending into the structure, the department requested additional help from the Rye Brook and Port Chester Fire Departments, along with Con Edison to help with disconnecting the power supply.

Crews were able to contain the fire to the garage area and prevent further damage to the rest of the structure. Firefighters remained at the location until 1:30 a.m.

Firefighters were assisted by the Westchester County Cause and Origin Team and the Rye Police Department. Mutual aid from Harrison and the Village of Mamaroneck covered other calls within the City of Rye.
