Suffolk Woman Clipped By Jeep's Sideview Mirror, No Hit-And-Run: Police

UPDATE: The driver remained at the scene and the incident was deemed non-criminal, Suffolk police said Wednesday.

UPDATE: The woman injured in the crash on Railroad Avenue in Sayville on November 21 has been identified as a 67-year-0ld from Sayville, Suffolk police said on Wednesday.

Following an investigation, detectives determined the crash was non-criminal, according to police. The southbound dark-colored Jeep did not strike her, police said, adding that detectives determined she was clipped by the sideview mirror of a 2012 Jeep Wrangler turning from eastbound Main Street to northbound Railroad Avenue.

The driver, a 57-year-old from Oakdale, remained at the scene, police said.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Two women were seriously hurt in separate crashes — one a hit-and-run — over a matter of hours in Suffolk County on Tuesday, police said.

A 67-year-old Sayville woman was walking eastbound on Main Street when she tried to cross
Railroad Avenue and was struck by a dark-colored Jeep traveling southbound on Railroad Avenue at around 6:16 p.m., police said, adding that it did not stop and then turned right onto Main Street, making a getaway westbound.

The woman, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was taken by ambulance to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious physical injuries, police said.

The Jeep is believed to be either dark grey or black and possibly has front-end damage on the driver’s side, police said.

Around four hours earlier just before 2 p.m., a 71-year-old woman was seriously injured in a crash in Holbrook, according to police.

The woman was driving a 2013 Lexus westbound on Veterans Memorial Highway when she tried to make a lefthand turn into the southbound lane of Grundy Avenue, police said, adding that she was struck by a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado that was traveling eastbound on Veterans Memorial Highway.

The woman, a Holbrook resident, was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue for treatment, police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 37-year-old man from Ronkonkoma, was taken to the
same hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks, police said.
