$26M Long Island MacArthur Airport Revamp Begins: Report
The project includes a new roof, the replacement of three baggage terminals, and a new air purification system, Newsday reported.

RONKONKOMA, NY — Improvements to the tune of $26 million at Long Island MacArthur Airport, including the addition of a new roof, the replacement of three baggage carousels, and the installation of a new air purification system have begun, Newsday reported.
The project, funded in part by federal and state grants, will take about a year to complete, including improvements like upgraded systems, equipment, and décor in the main terminal, something officials have wanted for decades, Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter told the outlet.
About $14 million will fund HVAC climate-control systems, an air purification system, energy-efficient plumbing fixtures, a backup generator, safety equipment compliance, and the replacement of lighting and signs, according to the outlet.

The rest of the money will help fund the 39-year-old roof's replacement, as well as three baggage carousels in the main terminal, and pay for upgrades to doors and vestibules to more efficiently regulate temperature, the outlet reported.
