Police ID 4 Injured In LIE Crash

A 2-year-old girl was among those injured in the crash Thursday night.

HOLTSVILLE, NY – Police have released the names of those injured in a three-car crash on the Long Island Expressway Thursday night.

According to Suffolk Police, 33-year-old Richard Sougstad was driving a 2012 Dodge Ram east on the LIE near Exit 63–Nicolls Road when he attempted to change lanes and crashed into a 2003 Hyundai Sonata. The crash caused the Dodge to overturn. The Hyundai then struck a 1998 Nissan Maxima.

Linda Capuano, 54, of Astoria, Queens, a passenger in the Hyundai, suffered serious injuries. Her husband John Capuano, 53, and Sougstad, of Coram, both sustained non-life threatening injuries. A 2-year-old girl in the Dodge suffered minor injuries, police said. They were all taken to Stony Brook University Hospital.

The driver of the Nissan, John Capuano’s son, 31-year-old Christopher Capuano, of Medford, was not injured.

The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.

The crash comes two days after a man was killed in a crash on the LIE in Hauppauge.
