4 Suffolk Police Officers Rescue Kayaker From Lake Ronkonkoma

The 59-year-old man had suffered a medical event when his vessel was spotted taking on water by a good Samaritan, cops say.

LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY – Four police officers rescued kayaker in distress was rescued from Lake Ronkonkoma Tuesday, Suffolk police said.

At around 1 p.m., the 59-year-old Ronkonkoma man suffered a medical event while kayaking, and the vessel began taking on water, but he was spotted by a good Samaritan on shore, and the person called 911, according to police.

Fourth Precinct Sergeant Andrew Sangimino, as well as officers Kevin Blyman and James Devorak, and Emergency Service’s Officer William Judge swam out to the man and brought him safely to shore, police said.

The man was taken by Lakeland Fire Department’s EMS crew to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was in stable condition, according to police.
