Arrest Made In Fatal Suffolk Hit-And-Run: Police

A man was killed by a motorist who continued driving in December, police say. An arrest was made Thursday.

HOLBROOK, NY — A man was arrested Thursday in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Holbrook in December, Suffolk police said.

Michael Sabeno, 72, of Holbrook, charged with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death after police said he hit Richard Dirocco, 63, of Holbrook, a pedestrian, in Holbrook.

Sabeno's arraignment is scheduled for Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Officers found Dirocco on the east side of Coates Avenue, just north of Frank Court, at around 5 p.m. Dec. 3, police said. Dirocco was pronounced dead at Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue, police said.

Suffolk police found a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup and "impounded it in association" with the fatal hit-and-run, the department said.
