Brookhaven Police Blotter: Arrest In October Stabbing, Animal Cruelty
Suffolk police and other area first responders answered calls across Brookhaven Town this past week. Here's a synopsis.
BROOKHAVEN TOWN, NY — A Coram man was charged last Wednesday in connection with stabbing a man and slashing the tires of his vehicle back in October, Suffolk police said.
Victor Hickson, 29, got into a fight with the man on Seymore Lane in Medford at around 6:45 a.m. on Oct. 8, then stabbed him and slashed the tires of his vehicle, according to police. The man was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Hickson was charged with assault with the intent to cause physical injuries and third-degree criminal mischief.

BLUE POINT
- A home garage in Blue Point caught fire on Sunday, police said.
The fire broke out just before 9 p.m. and the department's Arson Section was notified, according to police.

CENTEREACH
- A fire in a fire pit spread to the gazebo of a Centereach home on Saturday, police said.
The fire broke out at the Timbercrest Lane home at 7:27 p.m., according to police.
Arson Section detectives responded, police said.

CORAM
- A Coram man was charged with animal cruelty on Thursday after Suffolk police say he failed to get adequate medical treatment for a dog in his home.
The man, 31, was charged with torture/injury to an animal, police said. He is due in court at a later date.
MILLER PLACE
- A Farmingville woman was arrested after Suffolk police say she swiped cash from a home in Miller Place.
Lisa Merola, 55, went inside a Sylvan Avenue home at around 8:11 p.m. on Nov. 18 and made off with some cash, police said. She was charged with was charged with second-degree burglary on Nov. 29, according to police.
- A person was taken to the hospital after the vehicle they were in crashed in the woods in Miller Place on Sunday night, Suffolk police said.
Officers responded to a report of a vehicle into the woods at 6:32 p.m. on Miller Place-Yaphank Road, according to police. The person was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
SHIRLEY
- A vehicle caught fire in a parking lot on Montauk Highway in Shirley on Sunday afternoon, police said.
The vehicle was fully engulfed by the time officers arrived, but no one was injured, according to police. No criminality is suspected.
The fire started at about 3:30 p.m.
