Police: Drivers Hit 90 MPH on North Ocean Avenue

Drivers issued summonses for unlawful speed contest in Holtsville.

Two men were charged with participating in an unlawful speed contest in Holtsville earlier this week, reaching speeds of 90 mph on North Ocean Avenue, according to police.

A police officer observed a grey 2006 Chevrolet Corvette exit the Wave gas station near Long Island Avenue and nearly come to a stop in a southbound lane at approximately 5:10 p.m. on Tuesday, police said.

That same officer then saw a grey 2001 Volkswagen Golf exit the same gas station, pull alongside the Corvette and also nearly come to a stop.

As the officer approached the vehicles, both drivers began to race southbound on North Ocean Avenue. As both vehicles slowed down when they approached slow-moving traffic, the officer activated his emergency lights and was able to safely pull over both vehicles.

According to police, both drivers, Gary Conrad, 32, of Medford, and Nicholas Minieri, 20, of Holtsville, were issued summonses for speeding, engaging in an unlawful speed contest and reckless driving. Conrad’s Corvette and Minieri’s Golf were also both impounded, police said.
