Long Island Man Who Fired Gun At Officers Found Dead Inside Home: Police

UPDATE: He was found dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound after barricading himself in the house, Suffolk cops say.

LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY — A Lake Ronkonkoma man who shot at officers responding to reports of an intoxicated and suicidal man inside his home was found dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Suffolk police said.

Officers responded to a 911 call reporting an intoxicated and suicidal man with a handgun inside a home on Wiggins Streer just before 9 a.m., police said, adding, that shortly after they arrived, Pedro Laureano, left the house and exchanged gunfire with an officer.

He then retreated and barricaded himself in the home, police said.

A short while later, police heard gunshots and Emergency Service Section officers made entry into the home where they found Laureano, 55, dead from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

The New York State Attorney General’s Office has been notified.
