Long Island Man's BMW Plows Though Queens Park, Plunges Into East River: Cops

The 24-year-old's body was pulled from the submerged SUV late Sunday, NYPD officials said.

CENTEREACH, NY — The body of Centereach man was pulled from his submerged BMW Sunday night after it plowed through a Queens park, smashing a fence, the New York Police Department said.

Martins Gonzales, 24, was pulled from the submerged SUV 17 hours after it plunged into the river, according to police.

A 911 caller alerted officers about a river rescue inside Raney Park in Astoria, after Gonzales drove into the water at about 3:30 a.m., police said.

Investigators believe Gonzales drove the 2021 white BMW through the entrance of the park, near 34th Street and Vernon Boulevard, according to police.

The police investigation is continuing, police said.
