Lynwood Students Create Holiday Display

Students in Ms. Sheryl Amallobieta’s fourth grade class at Lynwood Avenue Elementary School in Sachem participated in a collaborative lesson that spread holiday cheer to wrap up their fiction unit. As a culminating project, the class watched the classic “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and completed a literary analysis of the story. Students identified literary elements including the theme, mood and tone. Additionally, students discussed and researched characters, character traits and conflicts.

The fourth graders applied what they learned to a visual representation of the story. Students created a plot mountain by mapping out the important events of the story. This mountain was turned into a cardboard Christmas tree. They also worked together to construct 3D characters of the story with their traits labeled.

The “window display” gave students the opportunity to visualize the story from start to finish. It also got students in the holiday spirit.
