LONG ISLAND, NY — Voters in New York's 5th Assembly District will see an incumbent challenged as they head to the polls on Nov. 8.

The candidates:

  • Doug Smith (Republican, Conservative)
  • James Anthony (Democrat)

Incumbent Assemb. Smith, of Holbrook, has served in the assembly since 2019.

He will face Democrat James Anthony, also of Holbrook, in the election.

The 5th Assembly District stretches from Islandia, Lake Ronkonkoma, and Lake Grove in the west to the Selden and Farmingville area in the east, and includes a portion of North Patchogue.
