Pickup Truck Driver Killed Pedestrian, Fled Scene: Police

The Long Island man who was killed may have been struck five hours before his body was found by a passerby early Friday.

RONKONKOMA, NY – Police are searching for the driver of a pickup truck that fatally struck a pedestrian in Ronkonkoma.

According to Suffolk Police, 46-year-old Christopher Grassia was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Rosevale Avenue, south of Richmond Boulevard. A passerby discovered Grassia and called 911 at approximately 12:20 a.m.

Police believe the vehicle was a blue Dodge Ram pickup truck with front end damage as a result of the crash and that the crash may have occurred between 7:20 p.m. Thursday and 12:20 a.m. Friday.

Grassia, of Ronkonkoma, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
