Robotics Competition Highlights Student Dedication To Design
the Seneca Middle School Lego Robotics Team competed in the FIRST Lego League Robotics qualifier event.

On Saturday, Jan. 25, the Seneca Middle School Lego Robotics Team competed in the FIRST Lego League Robotics qualifier event at Huntington High School.
Led by co-coaches and Seneca teachers Heidi Michta and Michael Lundstrom, the team of student-engineers participated in four judged events that included a research project presentation, core values, robot presentation and the robot game. This year’s theme was “City Shaper,” in which each team was faced with the challenge of identifying a problem with a building or public space in their community, designing a solution, sharing it with others and refining it.
The Seneca team focused on researching the asphalt used for our roads and investigated alternative materials that would better withstand traffic, weather and the environment, therefore requiring less maintenance. At the competition, students presented their findings and their solution in a creative way in front of judges, parents and peers.

As they competed in various missions in the robot game, students worked collaboratively to problem solve. The team received the highly respected Judges Award, an award presented to those whose unique efforts, performance or dynamics merit recognition.
