Sachem East Rolls in First Round Action
Has easy time with victory over Hills East to open playoffs.

As expected, Sachem East had an easy go in the first round of the Suffolk County Class AA girls basketball playoffs, beating Hills East, 63-29, at home Monday evening.
Top-seeded Sachem (18-1) advances to the quarterfinals Wednesday, where it will host No. 8 Walt Whitman (13-6) at 5:45 p.m.
Meagan Doherty scored a game-high 21 points and recorded five rebounds and four steals.

Katie Doherty (11), Alie Drake (11) and Kathleen Everson (10) all scored in double-digits for Sachem.
No. 16 Hills East (11-9) was led by Julia Gneiser and Kristen McKenzie, who each scored 12 points.

- In other Class AA action, No. 2 Lindenhurst beat Eastport-South Manor, 58-23. Sachem East coach Matt Brisson's daughter Riley plays for ESM.
- Upset central: During the first round, there were only two upsets: No. 12 Deer Park upset No. 5 North Babylon. No. 10 Northport upset No. 7 Copiague.
- High seeds win: No. 4 Hauppauge beat No. 13 Commack. No. 3 Riverhead beat No. 14 Pat-Med. No. 6 Ward Melville beat No. 11 Kings Park.
