Sachem East Wrestling Wins League II Tournament

Sachem has five champions in tourney at Central Islip.

The Sachem East wrestling team continued its strong 2012 season by winning the League II tournament on Saturday at Central Islip. Sachem East led all teams with 17 place finishers and led the tournament from start to finish, outdistancing runner up Connetquot by over 70 points.

The Arrows were paced by five champions as Jackson Mordente (138), Anthony Pistone (145), Mark Tracy (152), Zac Nobre (170), and Cristian Nunez (195) all took home gold medals in their weight class.  Two weight class saw an all Sachem East final as Billy Merone (145), and Michael Pistone (152) both advanced to the finals before falling to their teammates in the finals. Doug Iadanza (99), Jakob Restrpo (120), and Josh Edmonson (285) also earned runner up honors.  

Finishing in third place were Michael Abbondanza (106), Conor O’Hara (126), Conner Farrell (182), and John Vigh (195). Michael Rothbaum (120), Anthony Messina (132), and AJ Solomito (170) finished in fourth place to earn All-League Honors.

“It was a very solid effort," said Sachem coach Sean O’Hara “This title was the result of a total team effort. We wrestled well, but need to learn from mistakes that we made and focus on improving for the tough Section XI tournament next weekend."
