Sachem Patch Youth Sports Notebook

A look at how the youth of Sachem is doing on the sports fields.

The 11-year old Sachem Warriors avenged there only loss of the season by defeating the two-time defending champion Long Island Sound Sharks, behind a huge vocal home crowd at the PAL Complex in Holtsville last weekend.

Sachem’s defense posted its fifth shutout of the season in the 22-0 victory.

After a big punt block by Pete E., the offense quickly took advantage of the situation with Tyler B., scoring on a 39-yard run on a trap play behind blocks from Dylan L., Devin P., and Cameron C.

The Warriors defense than took control, lead by the defensive line of Logan V. Mike C., Joey S., Bryan M., Jake W., Devin P. and Danny C., causing havoc in the Shark backfield forcing a  fumble.

Dylan L took the ball on a sweep going 42 yards behind great blocks from Logan V. and Tyler B. for the first of his two touchdowns on the day. Logan V. added the kick and the Warriors went into halftime with a 16-0 lead.

In the second half the Warriors’ tenacious defense caged the Sharks offense, providing the offense with great field position and the Warriors closed out the scoring with Dylan L. scoring on a 37-yard blast behind a block from center John G. and Dominick M. to take the 22-0 lead going into the fourth quarter.

In the final quarter the Sharks took to the air, but Sachem’s defense was too much. There was great coverage in the secondary from Ryan S., Nicky M., Breslin B., Ryan V.

The Warriors advance to the championship game for the second straight year, this time against Nassau County powerhouse Massapequa, who Sachem beat two weeks ago in an epic, 8-6, battle.
