Sachem Residents Running Marathon for CCFA
Looking to raise $5,000 for Crohn's and Colitis Foundation.

Sachem residents Amy and Peter Goodermote have decided to take on a new challenge this year: Running/Walking their first half marathon. They have joined the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America’s (CCFA) endurance program.
Team challenge will be competing in the 2011 Las Vegas Rock n Roll Half Marathon on Dec. 4, 2011. Over the next four months they will be training and raising funds with Team Long Island in hope of finding a cure for these diseases from which over 1.4 million Americans suffer.
According to a letter the Goodermotes prepared, Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis are known together as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). They are painful, medically incurable illnesses that attack the digestive system. Since its inception, CCFA has funded more than 1,100 grants, investing their dollars wisely funding the highest quality IBD research anywhere in the world. More than 80 cents of every dollar raised goes directly toward research, education and support services.

All of our training and fundraising will be on behalf of Amy’s brother Jay who has suffered with Crohn’s for 30 years and from their son Craig who suffers from Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
“With proper medications and alterations to their diets Jay and Craig have kept the diseases under control,” she said. “Not everyone with the disease is as fortunate.”

They have two goals to achieve with this challenge. The first is to actually train for and cross the finish line. The second goal they can only achieve with help and generosity and that is to raise $5,000 for CCFA.
