Doug Shanahan Taken by Charlotte in MLL Supplemental Draft
Goes in 12th round, 90th overall, to new expansion franchise.

Doug Shanahan is back in Major League Lacrosse (MLL). His name surfaced this week when he was selected in the 12th round of the MLL Supplemental Draft by the new expansion Charlotte Hounds.
Shanahan, who graduated from Sachem in 1997, is one of the most prolific lacrosse players in Long Island history, staring at Hofstra, eventually for the U.S. National Team and in the MLL.
His at Sachem and Hofstra and he'll make an appearance with the U.S. team in January in the , an event sponsored by U.S. Lacrosse.

As a senior at Sachem, Shanahan guided the football team to the Suffolk County championship, but the Flaming Arrows lost to Patchogue-Medford that season in 1996. He also played football at Hofstra, and tried out for the Jets, nearly making the squad as he was the final defensive back cut that season.
Shanahan played in the MLL from 2003-2009 for Bridgeport, Philadelphia, Chicago and Long Island, scoring 79 goals and recording 109 points. He helped Bridgeport win an MLL title in 2004.
