RONKONKOMA, NY — Long Island MacArthur Airport saw about a 17 percent decrease in departures in 2022 in comparison to 2019, Newsday reported, citing data from the flight analytics company Cirium.

In 2022, the airport saw 5,358 departing flights, including all scheduled flights through the end of the month, in comparison with 6,464 in 2019, the outlet reported. Overall, departing flights are down 32 percent since 2012, according to the outlet.

While departures are down, MacArthur has seen some improvement, with Frontier Airlines adding 35 percent more flights since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and Breeze Airlines plans to add more destinations in 2023, the outlet reported.

MacArthur is a popular airport and preferred by many in Suffolk County as an alternative to LaGuardia Airport in Queens.

An Islip Town spokesman declined to comment.
