Suffolk County Sheriff Attends VFW Social

On April 11, 2023, Suffolk County Sheriff Dr. Errol D. Toulon Jr. visited the V.F.W. Post 400 in Farmingville to speak with members about what the Sheriff’s Office does and how they impact the veterans of Suffolk County. Sheriff Toulon also met with SCSO explorer and Eagle Scout James Mattimore, whose Eagle Scout project involved the construction of a 2-foot high, 35-foot-long wall for the VFW Post 400.

The Veterans and Senior Program POD at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility offers specialized services geared towards veterans of the armed forces. The program includes case management and visits from human service providers that specialize in working with veterans. The Suffolk County Correctional Facility has partnered with the Northport VA and the Veterans of Foreign Wars to help veterans transition from jail to the community. The Sheriff’s Transition and Reentry Team (S.T.A.R.T.) also provides many resources specifically for veterans who are transitioning back to the community.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) of the United States is a nonprofit veterans service organization comprised of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, guard and reserve forces. Their mission is to foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts, serve our veterans, the military, and our communities, and to advocate on behalf of all veterans.
