Suffolk Lawmakers Approve $4B Budget With Tax Increase: Report
It was driven by a 21% increase in mandated pension costs, and roughly $9 million loss in red light camera revenue, Newsday reported.

HAUPPAUGE, NY — Suffolk lawmakers on Wednesday approved County Executive Ed Romaine’s $4 billion 2025 budget, which includes a tax hike for most residents, Newsday reported.
It increases taxes by about $49 per year for residents living in Suffolk’s five western towns which pay into the county’s police fund, and East End residents, who have police coverage from local villages and towns, are expected to see a $5.91 increase in general fund taxes, the outlet reported.
The budget was driven by a 21 percent increase in mandated pension costs, an about $9 million loss in red light camera revenue, and a shortage of $46 million in sales tax, according to the outlet.
