Long Island Woman Dies After Hit-And-Run Crash: Police

She was struck crossing Rosevale Avenue, and was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was pronounced dead, cops say.

RONKONKOMA, NY — A woman was fatally struck by a sedan that fled the scene in Ronkonkoma on Monday, Suffolk police said.

Lydia Ciminelli was crossing Rosevale Avenue, just south of Motor Parkway, at around 9:30 a.m. when she was struck by a southbound vehicle, described as a dark-colored sedan, that fled the scene, according to police.

Ciminelli, 72, of Lake Ronkonkoma, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6553 or Crime Stoppers, a confidential police hotline, at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential, according to police.
