A wind advisory has been issued for the island as the new year will kick off with some pretty terrible weather.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Long Island as wind gusts up to 50 mph will have the potential to knock out power into Tuesday afternoon.

The advisory will be in effect from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tuesday for all of the island, except for the East End where the advisory will begin at 9 p.m. Monday.

The strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected, the NWS says.
