6-Year-Old Girl Dies Of Injuries After LI Car Crash: PD

A 6-year-old girl died Sunday after being critically injured in a car crash with her father in Bohemia on Saturday, police say.

BOHEMIA, NY — A six-year-old girl who was critically injured in a car crash Saturday afternoon has died from her injuries, Suffolk County police said on Sunday.

Amaia Rivera, 6, was ejected from the backseat of a car driven by her father on Saturday around 3:35 p.m. when the car crashed on Sunrise Highway, police said.

Calix Armando Rivera Aguilar, 51, of Brentwood, was driving westbound on Sunrise Highway and lost control of the vehicle, hit the center median, crossed all westbound lanes, left the roadway, and struck a tree, police said.

Rivera Aguilar was not injured but Amaia was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip in critical condition where she was pronounced dead Sunday morning, police said.

The Infiniti was impounded for a safety check.
