Sayville Man, Bayport Woman Arrested at Sobriety Checkpoint

The overnight checkpoint was conducted as part of ongoing holiday enforcement operations.

PATCHOGUE, NY – Five people were arrested during an overnight sobriety checkpoint in Patchogue, Suffolk Police said.

Police officers from the Highway Patrol Bureau, assisted by New York State sroopers and officers from the MTA, conducted the checkpoint at Waverly Plaza at the corner of Waverly Avenue and the north Sunrise Highway Service Road from 11:20 p.m. Friday until 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

The checkpoint was conducted as part of ongoing holiday enforcement operations for the prevention of injuries and fatalities associated with driving while ability impaired by alcohol and drugs, police said. A total of 528 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

The following people were charged with DWI:

  • Daniel Leshaw, 32, of Port Jefferson Station
  • Michael Bosnack, 32, of Sayville
  • Nicole Scherer, 40, of Bayport
  • James Cunningham, 52, of Central Islip
  • Tony Rosales, 35, of Huntington Station

Rosales’s vehicle was seized due to a prior conviction, police said. All of those arrested will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
