Business Booms For Sayville Restaurant In Former 'Crickets' Location

The Wayward Kitchen & Cocktails recently opened in the former space of a beloved Sayville restaurant.

SAYVILLE, NY — The former space of a beloved Sayville restaurant is continuing a legacy of supporting the community.

The Wayward Kitchen & Cocktails, which opened in August in the same space as long-time restaurant, Crickets, features its own unique menu, while paying homage to its predecessor, Newsday said.

Located at 98 Street Main Street, The Wayward offers eight taps and a lineup of wines, spiked seltzers and cocktails, such as a pumpkin espresso martini and a pear-pomegranate margarita.

It features a variety of appetizers, salads, and sandwiches, as well as pub food such as: mac-and-cheese; French onion soup; iceberg wedge salads; a two-patty, cheddar-topped smash burger; butternut squash ravioli and hangar steak.

A more "open vibe" with both modern and contemporary pieces, The Wayward its interior also showcases green leather booths as an homage to Crickets.

Crickets closed its doors in September 2021, after four decades of business.

On its final night, it played the theme song from the 1980s television show Cheers on the final night, and uploaded the video to Facebook with the caption "I'm not crying, you're crying."
