Edwards Bows Out Of Town Council Race
Democrat cites family, career as reasons he will not seek re-election this November.

Islip Town Councilman , a Democrat, will not seek re-election this November, a move that could alter the balance of power among Democrats and Republicans at town hall.
It had been expected that Edwards would run for a second term on the council as part of a Democratic ticket that includes Supervisor and Councilman .
“It has been a difficult decision as I have enjoyed my tenure as councilman,” Edwards said in a prepared statement. "However, after deliberating with my wife, family and others close to me, I realize that at this time both family obligations and recent career opportunities compel me not to seek another four year term.”

Edwards was first elected to the town board in 2007. His victory, along with those of Nolan and Parrington that same year gave Democrats control of the five-member council for the first time in 40 years.
His decision, at least for the moment, leaves the Democratic ticket for this November’s election in flux.
