WEST SAYVILLE, NY —On September 18 a volunteer firefighter in West Sayville was hurt while on duty. Steve Redding is a long-time volunteer for both the Community Ambulance Company and West Sayville Fire Department.

The Sayville and West Sayville communities are rallying around Redding, with neighbors setting up both an online fundraiser on GoFundMe and hosting an event this weekend at Sayville Athletic Club.

Michael Duffy organized the online fundraiser. He wrote that Redding "was badly injured in the line of duty on an EMS alarm for Community Ambulance," and that "every dollar helps." So far donors have given $4,220.
