Funeral For Nassau's Chief Of Patrol; 39-Year Veteran Of Department
Kevin Canavan, who was 64 years old, died of a 9/11-related illness.

BAYPORT, NY —The Nassau County Police Department's Chief of Patrol Kevin Canavan was being laid to rest on Monday.
Canavan on June 30 from 9/11-related cancer.
The Line of Duty funeral was set for Our Lady of the Snow RC Church in Blue Point. A wake was held on Sunday.

Canavan spent four decades as a police officer in Nassau, starting in May 1985. He rose through the ranks to become the second-highest ranking uniformed officer as the chief of patrol.
He was beloved by all who knew Canavan through the years, as Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said in a statement last week.

"Chief Canavan was always a 'cops' cop' and the rank and file loved working for and with him."
An interment will take place at St. Ann's Cemetery in Sayville.
