Health Care Worker Stole Elderly Woman's Debit Card: Police

A Long Island health care worker has been arrested for stealing the debit card of an elderly former patient, Suffolk County police say.

OAKDALE, NY — A Long Island health care worker was arrested on Wednesday for stealing and using the debit card of a former patient, according to Suffolk County police.

Lexes Stewart, 28, of Wyandanch, was employed as a home health aide for an 82-year-old Bethpage woman until she moved to a rehabilitation center in Oakdale, police said.

Once Stewart’s services were no longer needed, she visited the woman at the center on May 12, stole her debit card, withdrew $500 from her account and returned the card in her wallet, police said.

Following an investigation by Financial Crimes Unit detectives, Stewart was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and third-degree identity theft, police said.
