SAYVILLE, NY — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we're working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Joelle Hawkes, who nominated a fellow local mom, Jamie Seitz, whose daughter goes to school with her son.

Hawkes wanted to nominated Seitz, a certified gym trainer, who organized a social distant exercise class at the Blue Point Preserve for the community when she was not able to teach in a gym.

"She shows up every day and brings gear like a giant tire to flip and battle ropes for ab work," Hawkes wrote. "She keeps it together as a wife and mother and shows up daily at 7 a.m. to teach the community to be fit and feel good! She is very encouraging; Jamie is the best!"
