Interim Principal Appointed At Bayport-Blue Point Elementary School

The formerly retired educator will take on the position for the 2023-2024 school year.

BAYPORT, NY — A new principal will walk the halls of Sylvan Avenue Elementary School this coming year.

The Bayport-Blue Point School District appointed Chris Scardino as the school's interim principal on Monday, during a special meeting of the board of education.

For 16 years, Scardino worked as the principal of Fork Lane Elementary School in Hicksville before retiring in 2020, a release said. Prior to that, he was an assistant principal in Babylon and worked as a classroom teacher for grades two through six.

Since retirement, Scardino has remained active in public education, most recently working as an interim in the Port Jefferson School District.

He is well-known for fostering deep connections with families, students and staff as well as implementing character-building programs and events, the school district said.

“I am confident that he will be a strong asset in leading our Sylvan Avenue school community this year, and I know he is eager to get to know our students, staff and families,” said Superintendent Timothy Hearney, as he welcomed Scardino to the district.
