SAYVILLE, NY — As Long Islanders practice social distancing and make personal sacrifices as part of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, many look to those on the front lines as inspiration. Patch will be highlighting Long Islanders who are going above and beyond in their work and community to help during the COVID-19 health crisis.

Donna Scarfo in West Babylon nominated her neighbor's daughter, Allisandra Prichinillo Hansen. Hansen works at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, in the operating room. Scarfo is inspired by Hansen's bravery, working during the COVID-19 pandemic while seven months pregnant.

"She’s due in June, and has not missed one day of work. She fills in for others and still takes on call rotations. She’s amazing," says Scarfo.

Hansen, a Sayville resident, is expecting her first baby with her husband who is a merchant sailor. Risks to pregnant women from coronavirus are still undetermined and many Long Island women expecting to deliver during the pandemic are having to change birth plans and take extra precautions.
