WEST ISLIP, NY — A Long Island native will be the youngest catcher on the Los Angeles Angels to start on opening day.
Logan O'Hoppe, 23, who was born in West Islip and attended Saint John the Baptist High School, will play on the Angels roster opening day Thursday.
He began his career with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2018 in the MLB Draft.

In August, the Phillies traded O'Hoppe to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for outfielder Brandon Marsh.
He made his debut Sept. 28, starting at catcher and recording his first major league hit off Oakland A's pitcher Adrián Martínez in his first career at bat.

The Angels will play against the A's on Thursday.
In his short MLB stint last year, O'Hoppe tallied 1 run and 2 RBI, with a batting average of .286.
At the AA level last year, he smashed 15 home runs, scored 48 runs, and racked up 45 RBI with the Phillies over 75 games. He also added 11 home runs, 24 runs and 33 RBI over 29 games with the Angels.
