LONG ISLAND, NY — Voters in New York's 4th Senate District will see an incumbent challenged as they head to the polls on Nov. 5.

The candidates:

  • Monica Martinez (Democrat)
  • Teresa Bryant (Republican)

Incumbent Monica Martinez, of Brentwood, has a background in education and was first elected to the New York State Senate in 2018 and was re-elected in 2022 with 51.4 percent of the vote, according to Ballotpedia.

Bryant, a political newcomer, has a background in health care and is a licensed registered nurse. She resides in Central Islip.

She did not respond to Patch's questionnaire.

Communities in the 4th Senate District includes portions of Suffolk County including Islandia, Hauppauge, Central Islip, Brentwood, Bay Shore, Deer Park, West Babylon, Amityville, and Farmingdale.
