Sayville Athletics Hall of Fame Celebrates Class of 2025 Induction Ceremony

Eleven New Hall of Famers Honored at Sayville High School

The Sayville School District recognized exemplary figures in its athletics history, as the Sayville Athletics Hall of Fame’s class of 2025 was inducted in a ceremony on September 20th. The 11 newest members of the Hall of Fame span close to nine decades of Golden Flashes history across various sports.

The new inductees include student-athlete alumni Mike Buck (class of 1985), Joseph Gugliotta (class of 2007), David Jackson (class of 1973), Kristy Longman (class of 2007), Matthew Messina (class of 2005), Craig Orski (class of 1999), Bob Peiser (class of 1969), Louis Verspoor (class of 1955), and Anne Wolstencroft (class of 1935). The inducted coaches were cross country and track coach Glenn Drago and softball coach Jennifer Wittman-Cahill.

To qualify for the Sayville Athletics Hall of Fame, student-athletes must be an award-winning, varsity-level competitor and leader with an impact on Sayville’s program and outstanding character. They are eligible once they have been out of high school for at least five years. Coaches must have significant accomplishments and contributions to the Sayville athletics program, along with outstanding character and leadership qualities. Coaches are eligible once they have been retired for at least three years.

“Each member of the Sayville Athletics Hall of Fame’s class of 2025 is incredibly deserving of our district’s highest athletic honor,” said Sayville Public Schools Director of Physical Education, Health, and Interscholastic Athletics Dr. Ryan Cox. “I would like to thank them all for the contributions they have made to our program over their careers.”

This year’s Hall of Fame class is the district’s first since 2017. The next class will be inducted in 2027.
