Sayville Man Abandoned 2 Cats, Charged With Animal Cruelty: SPCA

SAYVILLE, NY — A Sayville man was arrested and charged with animal cruelty on Monday after the Suffolk County SPCA said he abandoned his two cats.

Matthew Halversen, 49, was charged with four counts of animal cruelty, a misdemeanor, officials said.

Roy Gross, Chief of the Suffolk County SPCA said that officers found the cats — an orange tabby named Jack and a stripped tabby name Penny — at the rear of a Patchogue store.

The felines were found without food or water, officials said.

Halversen is due to appear in First District Court on July 14.
