Seatuck Plans Oyster Hatchery At Former Bluepoints Facility In West Sayville
Environmental nonprofit says waterfront site will support oyster restoration and marine research efforts.
SAYVILLE, NY — Seatuck Environmental Association plans to take over the former Bluepoints Oyster Company facility at the West Sayville Boat Basin, according to a recent social media announcement by the nonprofit.
Seatuck said the site will be used to support oyster restoration efforts and marine research, including plans for a hatchery and wet laboratory space. The organization said it expects to begin work at the waterfront location this spring.
The facility, which previously housed Bluepoints Oyster Company operations, sits along the Great South Bay and has long been tied to shellfish activity in the region. Seatuck described the project as part of its broader mission to protect and restore Long Island’s bays, rivers, and estuaries.
