BAYPORT, NY — Firefighters extinguished a rooftop blaze that broke out in solar panels on a Bayport home on Wednesday, the Bayport Fire Department told Patch.

Fire department officials said they responded to a structure fire on Bay Avenue around 11:15 a.m. after a neighbor called to report smoke on the roof.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a rooftop solar panel burning underneath. The burning solar panel and adjacent panel were removed and the fire was put out without entering the attic and with minimal damage to the roof, officials said.
