Creative Writing Class, Call to Artists and an Upcoming Holiday Open House on Tap

Hanukah kicks off the day before Thanksgiving this year.

While everyone is gearing up for the big Turkey day on Thursday, and likely looking forward to a few days off, there is still time to have some fun given various events and programs happening this week.

Here is a look at what's going on between Blue Point and West Sayville:

The Sayville Library will hold a Creative Writing course on Monday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. Have a story to tell? Learn how to tell it from beginning to end in six one-hour sessions. The course will explore the essential elements of storytelling: character, plot, dialogue, conflict, and theme. Other topics will include brainstorming and other techniques for getting started, developing your own voice, revising, and dealing with writer's block. There is a $10 free for the course.

A Call to Artists is being issued by BAFFA in Sayville. In honor of the 100th Anniversary of the Sayville Village Improvement  Society’s (SVIS) 100th Anniversary and its founding of the Sayville  Library, the Bay Area Friends of the Fine Arts is hosting an art exhibit  beginning November 26 through December 8.  The exhibit is entitled ABOUT TOWN and will include artwork depicting people, places and things in and around the Sayville community.  Artists may enter up to two pieces.  Paintings and photographs should be framed and ready for installation. For further information contact BAFFA at 589-7343.

Kick off the holiday season by not missing the Sayville Historical Society's annual Holiday Open House taking place on Sat. Nov. 30. The grounds will be lit by luminaria, our charming buildings decorated and we celebrate German, Dutch, and English traditions. St. Nicholas will be wearing his Bishop's garb and will be anxious to talk to visitng children.  Trains of different gauges will be set up too.
