Town of Islip officials said an Oakdale man is within his free speech rights to display a 10-foot sign on his front lawn that praises President Donald Trump.

The white sign reads "GOOD JOB TRUMP" in the middle, "BUILD THE WALL" on the bottom left, "TRUMP 2020 on the bottom right and "NO COLLUSION CRY BABIES" on the bottom left.

On the bottom right, Alan Herrick, of Oakdale, hung an open toilet seat with "HOME" written on the top and the news outlets CBS, CNN and NBC around the seat.

Two neighbors filed complaints about the sign and town code enforcement workers investigated, according to town officials.

Herrick, 75, lives across from the Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School.

There has been a mixed reaction in the neighborhood and online.

"If people don't like it then look the other way," Doreen Peezi said on Facebook.

"What an embarrassment to his neighborhood," Ro Bannon said.

Attempts to reach Herrick were unavailing. He told Newsday, "I'm for the guy. I'm letting everybody know that I am for the man. If they don't like it, they can come meet me in the backyard if they want."
