Two Locals Expected To Star For Navy's Women's Lacrosse Team

Sayville's Jasmine DePompeo and Bayport's Loren Generi cited as key players for team's upcoming season.

Two local former high school lacrosse stars are expected to have a major impact on Navy’s women’s lacrosse team in the upcoming season.

Junior Jasmine DePompeo of Savyille and freshman Loren Generi of Bayport are among a handful of players the team’s coach, Cindy Timchal, is counting on to lead the team to another birth in the NCAA tournament.

A 2009 graduate of Sayville High School, DePompeo looks to follow up a strong sophomore campaign in which she scored 57 goals and ranked third in the nation with 99 points. As by Patch, DePompeo was recently named the Patriot League’s Pre-Season Offensive Player of the Year.

"Jasmine had a tremendous growth period between her freshman and sophomore year," said Timchal in a recent Navy season preview article. "She really made a statement last year in our conference. She gets a lot of double teams and a lot of defensive attention, but she can find the open player and set up her teammates with assists."

DePompeo averaged 4.71 points and her 42 assists during the 2011 season set a Navy school record. She scored nine points in the Patriot League championship game, a new conference tournament record.

This season, Generi joins DePompeo to create what should be a strong Long Island connection.

A 2011 graduate of Bayport-Blue Point High School, Generi earned five varsity letters in lacrosse and four in field hockey. She was named a US Lacrosse Academic All-American in 2010 and 2011 and led Bayport-Blue Point to division championships in 2008 and 2011.

She graduated from Bayport-Blue Point as the school’s all-time leader in goals with 265 and led the team in scoring from her freshman through senior years in high school.
