Hillels of Westchester presents the Westchester County debut of the documentary Miss Representation by Jennifer Siebel Newsom on Wednesday, April 11th at 7:00 PM at the Performing Arts Center (Recital Hall) at Purchase College. The 85-minute film will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Susan Weidman Schneider, Faye Lederman and Rachel Bernstein.
Miss Representation explores how the mediaβs misrepresentations of women have led to the underrepresentation of women in positions of power and influence. It challenges the mediaβs limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, which make it difficult for women to achieve leadership positions and for the average woman to feel empowered. Stories from teenage girls and provocative interviews with politicians, journalists, entertainers, activists and academics, like Condoleezza Rice, Nancy Pelosi, Katie Couric, Rachel Maddow, Margaret Cho, Rosario Dawson, and Gloria Steinem build momentum as Miss Representation accumulates startling facts and statistics that will leave the audience shaken and armed with a new perspective.
