Faulty GPS Leads Cops on Errant iPhone Chase

Scarsdale police scour Yonkers for missing gadget, cops said.

A faulty GPS, coupled with the popular Find My iPhone app, led Scarsdale police on a chase through Yonkers for a resident's missing smart phone.

A Wakefield Road resident contacted local cops last Thursday, and noted her daughter's iPhone had been pilfered from her backpack while at Scarsdale High School, police said. Using a computer and the app Find my iPhone, the mother was able to trace the missing phone to a home on Round Hill Road in Yonkers.

Police traveled to the location, but did not find the phone—a 4s—on the ground. They proceeded to knock on a home's front door; when no one answered, they called the phone, but could not hear it ringing, cops said.

When circling back with the mother, police learned the phone had moved to a nearby home in Yonkers. Cops scoured the streets out front, but did not find the gadget, according to reports.

Shortly afterward, the mother had the phone's alarm activated remotley—and a custodian at Scarsdale High School heard and found the device in the library, police said.
