Former Scarsdale Schools Counselor Makes Guilty Plea in Drug, Prostitution Case

David Mendelowitz, 59, will avoid jail time.

David Mendelowitz, a one-time guidance counselor and Dean of Students at Scarsdale High School, has pleaded guilty to two charges in a case involving cocaine and prostitution, according to reports.

Mendelowitz was one of 19 people indicted last November after law enforcement officers uncovered a prostitution ring that involved human trafficking, police said.

Mendelowitz—who was at one time involved with Scarsdale High School's Drug and Alcohol Task Force, and once worked at Sleepy Hollow Schools—was embroiled in the scandal, and hit with a litany of charges, including patronizing a prostitute and criminal possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors, and hindering prosecution, a felony.

The Journal News reported yesterday that Mendelowitz pleaded guilty to the latter two charges as part of a deal to stay out of prison. Instead, he will begin a five-year probation period.

Mendelowitz resigned from his job at Scarsdale High School last June, citing health issues. Soon after news of the criminal complaint broke, officials with Scarsale schools said "his alleged conduct did not involve anyone in our community."
