Greenburgh Supervisors 2026 goals

an exciting and productive year is planned for 2026

On Wednesday night the Greenburgh Town Board will hold our first meeting of the year. These are some goals, initiatives that you can expect to take place in 2026.

Arts, Culture & Community Programs

• Summer jazz concert series to resume on Thursday night at the Theodore Young Community Center. The six week series had been discontinued in recent years.

• Organize 3rd Annual Artists and Crafters Market at Presser Park in May.

• Black history exhibit. We will expand the exhibit- working with the Fairview Empowerment Committee placing banners of historic figures around town.

• Repair Café returns for free repairs at TDYCC for its third year.

Infrastructure Improvements, Historic, Cultural & Civic Facilities

• Retaining Wall refurbishment and the construction of the new Library patio. New patio to be constructed with Library Guild and grant funds.

• Opening of Odell House museum.

• Finalize a plan for Police and Court House upgrades.

• Opening of new welcome center at Nature Center.

Transportation & Pedestrian Safety

• Town to apply for a grant from NYS to fill in gaps of the Central Ave sidewalks. 6,000 linear feet of gaps need to be filled in to enable pedestrians to walk safely from the White Plains/Greenburgh border to Yonkers.Library,

• More sidewalks continuing to make Greenburgh a pedestrian friendly community. Consider creation of sidewalk districts in different neighborhoods.

• Award bid for start of construction of sidewalk on W Hartsdale Ave.

• Town Board to decide if the Town will clear snow from sidewalks on busy streets near schools or train stations/bus stops.

• Installation of red light camera’s East Hartsdale Ave and Ardsley Road.

• New traffic light at Ft Hill/Ardsley Road.

• Persuade NYS to enhance crosswalks near Bailey School.

• Reapply for grant from NYS to enable bike lane to be designed on Route 119 to the Mario Cuomo Bridge.

• Dobbs Ferry Road sidewalk completed. Dobbs Ferry Road repaving to take place by NYS in the fall.

• East Hartsdale Ave. signal intersection improvements.

• Install railings on steep sidewalks to help minimize falls due to black ice. Example:

Ardsley Road sidewalk going to the Scarsdale Train Station.

• Getting State’s permission to install speed cameras on Sprain Parkway and near schools

Environmental Sustainability & Resiliency, Utilities & Public Works

• Flood mitigation initiatives around town. Remove abandoned bridge on Saw Mill River near Elmsford. Implement annual obstruction removal -Saw Mill River and Manhattan Brook.

• Encourage more food scrap recycling.

• Strengthen leaf blower law, noise ordinance. Address enforcement concerns.

• Install solar panels at Lois Bronz Center/TDYCC.

• Line underground sewer pipes.

• Completing E. Hartsdale Ave sewer repair project.

Housing & Zoning

• Rezoning Hartsdale Four Corners mixed use development—new apartments and retail near Hartsdale Train Station.

• Approve Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) law.

• Approve legislation to require 10% set asides of affordable housing in one-family residential districts (in response to criticism for not creating affordable housing at the 113 unit).

• Working with Greenburgh Housing Authority on affordable housing at Warren Ave complex.

Economic Development & Business

• New supermarket opens on E Hartsdale Ave—Hartsdale Market.

• Work with Greenburgh Chamber of Commerce on plan to help local businesses. Organize events on E Hartsdale Ave to increase pedestrian traffic.

Recreation & Parks

• Night lights at Rumbrook Little League Field to be activated enabling Little League to have more evening practices/games.

• Construction of Sportime bubble at AF Veteran Park.

Governance, Finance & Policy

• Creating a citizens budget advisory committee to advise on cost-cutting/efficiency measures.

• Fire district contracts to be approved in the same year.

• Enact social media policy.

• Phase out employee buyout policy which enables employees/board members to receive $20,000 if they decline health insurance. No other community offers part-time elected officials, management or employees this large benefit. Most offer less than $8,000 if any.

• Speed up efforts to collect back taxes. Explore State legislation to enable Town to sell liens.

• Court to rule on validity of Edgemont incorporation petition.

Civic Engagement, Workforce & Education

• Creating new program to mentor young residents (20s-40s) to get involved in local government.

• Organize civil service test preparation classes for residents to help them navigate and perform well on exams.
