Scarsdale GOP Shares Debate Reaction

Members of the Scarsdale Republican Town Committee watched, along with the rest of the country, last night's first Presidential Debate. As former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama sparred over the issues, several GOP members in Scarsdale cheered on Romney. 

"It seems that the consenus is that Romney won," Scarsdale Republican Town Committee Treasurer Kimberly Fiorello told Patch. "We are very pleased. It was a fine performance and a fine debate."

Fiorello, a Scarsdale resident, said Romney was able to make some valid points on the economy.

"You can't tax your way out of a deficit," she noted.

The treasurer said the members of her committee, which consist of all registered Republicans in the village of Scarsdale, are looking forward to the second Presidential Debate.

Her one critique was for the allotted debate time.

"It felt like 90 minutes was not enough," she said. "We could have five hours of debate about the domestic economy. It was the first 90-minute debate and (Romney and Obama) touched on taxes and Obamacare, but there is so much more that we could still talk about in terms of Romney's domestic economic policy versus the current state of the economy."

Fiorello said she hopes the debate did sway undecided voters to the GOP side.

She also stressed the importance of citizens getting involved and seeking more information, in addition to watching the debates and news.

"Citizens have to be more cynical and discerning with information," she said.
