Scarsdale Police Working With Extra Staff, Backup Power
SPD is working overtime post-Sandy. Extra patrols are out in the village and the 911 calls are being handled.

Here is the latest information from Det. Lt. Thomas Altizio of the Scarsdale Police Department regarding post-Hurricane Sandy issues around the Village of Scarsdale:
The Scarsdale Police Department is continuing to deploy additional Patrol Officers to deal with storm related issues, as well as responding toΒ our regular calls for service, emergency calls andΒ providing ourΒ marked patrol unit presence throughout the village. The police department's primary telephone system has been disabled by the storm, and the police department isΒ operating onΒ our backup telephone systemΒ (which isΒ limited to 5 lines total)Β and isΒ functioning properly. TheΒ police department's E-911 emergency telephone system is also functioning normally.
The two way radio systems for the police, fire and public works departments are all functioning properly, and all departments have full communications with personnel working in the field.Β The police department's operations are designed with severalΒ levels of redundancy for power,Β communications and vehicles.

Although the police department has resorted to some backup systems, we continue to remain fully functional, responding to all calls for service, and will continue to provide our full capabilities throughout this storm response. Β An Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is in operation at Public Safety Headquarters with functioning telephones and two radio radio communications to the police fire and public works departments.
The Public Safety building is equipped with emergency power generation, and can maintain all operationsΒ during power outages.Β The Village's storm response isΒ organized through the EOC, and coordinated with theΒ Westchester County Office of Emergency ManagementΒ and Con Edison. Β

The primary concern for the police department at this time is the safety of all Scarsdale residents and those traveling through the village. There are still dozens of trees down, many with power lines tangled within them which may still be energized. With over 4400 power outages within the village,Β residents should travel only if necessary, and be extremely carefull to stay away from down trees and wires. Β
