Scarsdale Superintendent Michael McGill says he will step down next year. McGill's current contract runs out in June of 2014.
McGill made the announcement at the last Scarsdale Board of Education meeting. Since 1998 he was been with the Scarsdale School District. Before coming to Scarsdale, McGill was the superintendent of the North Shore Schools on Long Island for 14 years. Before that, he taught in Massachusetts, directed a federal anti-poverty program in New Hampshire and then became a school district head in Massachusetts.
McGill's retirement announcement comes as the school district gears up for a second vote on the new school year budget. The budget was voted down on May 21. Because of that vote, the new spending plan has moved down to $143 million, from $145 million.
The budget vote will be held on June 18.
